Complicating the project was the fact that my data were not spaced at regular cartesian grid points, but rather compass-style at 30-degree intervals from a series of reference points.  Within a few minutes of searching online I found <a href=\"http:\/\/surgeweb.sweb.cz\/\">this shareware program from 2004<\/a> that could take a plaintext file of the xyz points as an input and interpolate a surface, producing this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"876\" src=\"https:\/\/david.bookstaber.com\/WP\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Topographic-Map-1024x876.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-319\" srcset=\"https:\/\/david.bookstaber.com\/WP\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Topographic-Map-1024x876.png 1024w, https:\/\/david.bookstaber.com\/WP\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Topographic-Map-300x257.png 300w, https:\/\/david.bookstaber.com\/WP\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Topographic-Map-768x657.png 768w, https:\/\/david.bookstaber.com\/WP\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Topographic-Map-1040x890.png 1040w, https:\/\/david.bookstaber.com\/WP\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Topographic-Map-640x547.png 640w, https:\/\/david.bookstaber.com\/WP\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Topographic-Map.png 1176w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Another great piece of freeware that recently simplified some of my other work is <a href=\"https:\/\/orlandomvp.org\/VBADecompilerMore.asp\">this VBA &#8220;Decompiler&#8221;<\/a>: I have been pushing the envelope with Excel, and since Microsoft Office is sloppy with its Visual Basic interpreters one must occasionally purge all VBA code from a workbook and reload it \u2013 a kludgy process that was automated by the author of that clever tool.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today I wanted to convert 26 height measurements I made into a topographic map.
