{"id":42,"date":"2007-04-04T17:47:56","date_gmt":"2007-04-04T17:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/consumermaven.wordpress.com\/2007\/04\/04\/instant-hot-water-filter-insinkerator-hc1100\/"},"modified":"2020-01-04T19:02:23","modified_gmt":"2020-01-05T00:02:23","slug":"instant-hot-water-filter-insinkerator-hc1100","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/david.bookstaber.com\/Interests\/2007\/04\/instant-hot-water-filter-insinkerator-hc1100\/","title":{"rendered":"Instant-Hot Water Filter: InSinkErator HC1100"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Most of us find it hard to imagine living without hot-and-cold running water.\u00a0 Well I can&#8217;t imagine why anyone would want to live without filtered instant-hot and cold water in their kitchen.\u00a0 And the only solution I have found that combines a cartridge filter with an instant-hot through a single fixture is the $500 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.insinkerator.com\/isejsp\/product\/product.jsp?id=24&amp;template=hwd\" title=\"InSinkErator HC1100\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">InSinkErator HC1100 system<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This system is actually\u00a0two separate components: a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.absolutehome.com\/web\/catalog\/product_detail.aspx?pid=5071\" title=\"HC1100 Dispenser\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$300 faucet<\/a>, and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.absolutehome.com\/web\/catalog\/product_detail.aspx?pid=80502\" title=\"SST-FLTR\">$200 filter and heater-tank assembly<\/a> that mounts under the sink.\u00a0 Now I&#8217;m not generally prone to spend $300 on a plumbing fixture, but this one is worth it for its peerless\u00a0convenience.\u00a0 The faucet has two handles: the cold handle (which can lock on) delivers a full-pressure flow of filtered water; the hot handle delivers a low-pressure stream of filtered water heated up to 200 degrees F.<\/p>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t lived with an instant-hot fixture you probably can&#8217;t imagine just how useful it can be:\u00a0 We use ours not only for tea, but also to make\u00a0cup-of-noodles and instant oatmeal &#8212; truly in an instant!\u00a0 We save time cooking by adding\u00a0nearly-boiling (and filtered) water to pots.\u00a0\u00a0Bullion or corn starch dissolves much faster in the superhot water.<\/p>\n<p>The cartridge filters are a cinch to change: The in-line adaptor is self-sealing, so you just twist out the old one and twist in a new one without having to shut any valves.\u00a0 I have been getting\u00a010-12 months of use out of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/faucetdepot.com\/faucetdepot\/productdetail.asp?link={36DA8E28-51AC-4A63-9E56-7162AEA76DEB}&amp;Product=1888\" title=\"F-501R Replacement Filter Cartridge\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$40 F-501R cartridges<\/a> before I notice a tap water taste returning.<\/p>\n<p>The system is backed by InSinkErator&#8217;s oustanding in-home-service warranty.<\/p>\n<p><b>2010 Update<\/b>: The new enhanced filters are designated F-601R; F-501R cartridges are no longer made.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/InSinkErator-F-HC1100SN-Indulge-Contemporary-Dispenser\/product-reviews\/B000GQRVJG\/ref=cm_cr_dp_hist_1?ie=UTF8&#038;showViewpoints=0&#038;filterBy=addOneStar\">Apparently the faucet is only good for a few years before the shut-off springs start to stick<\/a>.  InSinkErator has extended the faucet warranty for new purchase to 5 years, but after that I would expect the handles to start to stick open &#8212; as mine did a few years ago.  At that point InSinkErator suggests the entire $250 faucet needs to be replaced.
