{"id":1380,"date":"2017-02-04T15:06:41","date_gmt":"2017-02-04T20:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/david.bookstaber.com\/Interests\/?p=1380"},"modified":"2020-01-04T18:59:27","modified_gmt":"2020-01-04T23:59:27","slug":"2017-product-watch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/david.bookstaber.com\/Interests\/2017\/02\/2017-product-watch\/","title":{"rendered":"2017 Product watch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Either I&#8217;ve stopped thinking ahead or markets are finally catching up: I&#8217;ve found existing or possibly imminent sources for most of the innovative products on my wish list:<\/p>\n<p><B>High speed video<\/b> is creeping into the mainstream: The just-under-$1000 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hispeedcams.com\/sony-rx100-v-extended-slowmo-mode\/\">Sony RX100MV can record a few seconds of HD (sort of) resolution at up to 1000fps<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Usable <strong>thermal imaging<\/strong> is widely available under $1000, and <strong>digital &#8220;night vision&#8221;<\/strong> is getting close to supplanting perpetually too-pricey image intensifiers.  I found enough businesses working in this space that I&#8217;ve decided to wait to see what comes to market, rather than pushing for the particular integrated consumer product I have in mind.<\/p>\n<p><em>In the consumer gun industry:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t written about them, but <a href=\"https:\/\/warner-tool.com\/collections\/flat-line-projectiles\">Flat Line bullets<\/a> have brought revolutionary monolithic projectiles for long-range shooting to the masses.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/david.bookstaber.com\/Interests\/2015\/01\/products-im-looking-for-2015-edition\/\">Two years ago<\/a> I asked for a three-mode trigger.  I still haven&#8217;t seen what I specified, but <a href=\"https:\/\/fostechoutdoors.com\/shop\/index.php?l=product_list&#038;c=15\">the Echo trigger<\/a> is a clever variant I hope to try soon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mantisx.com\/\">Mantis<\/a> has promised a second generation of their IMU that mounts to gun rails and interfaces with smartphones, allowing us for the first time to conveniently quantify and analyze recoil effects on firearms.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bullpupforum.com\/index.php?action=forum\">Bullpups<\/a> continue to storm the mainstream.  If you don&#8217;t like any of the increasing number of native bullpup autoloaders (AUG, Tavor, RDB, RFB, PS90 etc.) you can find conversion stocks for many popular platforms like the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.olegvolk.net\/2012\/11\/14\/rogue-bullpup\/\">M1A<\/a>, Ruger 10\/22, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kushnapup.com\/\">Saiga<\/a>, et. al.  The KSG pump-action shotgun can actually be found at retail.  From Europe we have clever <a href=\"http:\/\/www.favsarmi.com\/\">single-<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefirearmblog.com\/blog\/2009\/11\/21\/steinkamp-sw1-the-bullpup-double-rifle-shotgun\/\">double-shot<\/a> bullpups that should eventually be available at reasonable prices in America.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know that it&#8217;s in development, but at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/patents\/US8621772\">someone thought it was worth patenting a new <strong>sealed-gap revolver<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Inexplicably, however, I&#8217;m still waiting for more <a href=\"https:\/\/david.bookstaber.com\/Interests\/2009\/11\/the-missing-subsonic-22lr-market\/\">heavy subsonic .22LR ammunition<\/a>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Either I&#8217;ve stopped thinking ahead or markets are finally catching up: I&#8217;ve found existing or possibly imminent sources for most of the innovative products on my wish list: High speed video is creeping into the mainstream: The just-under-$1000 Sony RX100MV can record a few seconds of HD (sort of) resolution at up to 1000fps.
